Resin 3D printer - SLA

Stereolithography (SLA) Technique

SLA is a groundbreaking additive manufacturing technology that transforms digital design concepts into physical objects with unparalleled precision and detail.

Let's take a closer look at how SLA 3D printers work and discover the magic behind this fascinating process.

At the core of SLA technology is a sophisticated process that builds objects layer by layer using a photopolymeric fluid. (Liquid that hardens by UV light)

How does an SLA printer work?

  1. Digital design : The process begins with the creation of a digital 3D model using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This model acts as a virtual blueprint for the desired object.

  2. Support structures and support materials : To support delicate or overhanging parts of the design, the printer can create support structures that are later removed after printing. These support materials are automatically created by the slicing software based on the design.

  3. Light curing of layers : In a container filled with photopolymeric liquid, a platform is lowered. A UV laser or LCD screen (mSLA) then illuminates the surface of the liquid. Where the laser hits the liquid, it hardens and forms a solid layer.

  4. Repeat and build layers : After a layer is cured, the platform rises and a new layer of liquid is dropped over the cured layer. The process is repeated until the entire object has been printed layer by layer.
An advantage of SLA 3d printer vs FDM technology is that the layers of the model are barely visible and very fine details can be printed. We have succeeded in creating details of less than 0.5mm

  5. Finishing : After the print is finished, it must be washed to remove excess liquid called Resin, as well as remove support material. In the final stage, the physical object then needs to be cured in UV light. you can advantageously use a so-called Wash & Cure cleaning station.

SLA 3D printing offers exceptional detail and quality, making it ideal for manufacturing high-quality prototypes, jewelry, dentures, and other detailed components. The technique is also very popular when creating miniatures for games such as dungeons and dragons etc
