Resin 3D printer - SLA

Stereolithography (SLA) Technology

SLA is a groundbreaking additive manufacturing technology that transforms digital design concepts into physical objects with unparalleled precision and detail.

Let's take a closer look at how SLA 3D printers work and discover the magic behind this fascinating process.

At the core of SLA technology is a sophisticated process that builds up objects layer by layer using a photopolymer liquid. (Liquid that cures with UV light)
This liquid is most often called 3D Resin, UV resin or resin and is delivered in airtight bottles, usually in sizes of 0.5-1Liter.

3D Resin is available from different manufacturers and types

How does an SLA printer work?

  1. Digital Design : The process begins with the creation of a digital 3D model using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This model serves as a virtual blueprint for the desired object.

  2. Support Structures and Support Materials : To support delicate or overhanging parts of the design, the printer can create support structures that are later removed after printing. These support materials are automatically created by the slicing software based on the design.

  3. Light curing of layers : A platform is lowered into a container filled with photopolymer liquid. A UV source with a DLP or LCD screen (mSLA) then illuminates the surface of the liquid. Where the light illuminates the liquid, it hardens and forms a solid layer.

  4. Repeat and build layers : After a layer has cured, the platform rises and a new layer of liquid is dropped over the cured layer. The process repeats until the entire object has been printed layer by layer.
An advantage of SLA 3d printer vs FDM technology is that the layers of the model are barely visible and it is possible to print very fine details. We have managed to create details of less than 0.5mm. The object is created upside down.

  5. Post-processing : After the print is complete, it must be washed to remove excess liquid called Resin, and to remove support material. In the final stage, the physical object then needs to be cured in UV light. You can use a so-called Wash & Cure cleaning station.

SLA 3D printing offers exceptional detail and quality, making it ideal for manufacturing high-quality prototypes, jewelry, dentures, and other detailed components. The technology is also very popular for creating miniatures for games such as dungeons and dragons, cosplay, etc.

Explore the potential of SLA 3D printing and let your creativity flourish with our advanced technology and expertise. Whether you are a designer, engineer, artist or manufacturer, SLA 3D printing can open up a world of possibilities for your next project. Within SLA there are different technologies such as DLP SLA printer, mSLA with LCD screen etc.

There are several different sla printer materials , among the most common are standard resin , water washable resin and stronger resin such as ABS-Like resin . There are also more sla printing resins
